Kenyan police will offer a “significant cash reward” for information leading to the capture of a serial killer suspected of a prison break.
Collins Jumaisi Khalusha escaped from Gigiri police station in the capital Nairobi on Tuesday along with 12 suspects.
Eight officers have since been suspended and five have been charged over the jailbreak, which police said was facilitated by an insider.
Last month, police said Mr Kalusha confessed to murdering 42 women, including his wife, since 2022, but his lawyer said he was coerced into pleading guilty.
Thursday, Wanted Released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), it appeals to the public to come forward with information to help in the re-arrest of Mr Khalusha.
Reports say the suspect will be charged with murder.
“Anyone who provides reliable information leading to the arrest of the suspect will receive a huge cash reward,” the Central Police Department said in the appeal, which also asked the public to make confidential reports to the police hotline or any police station in the country.
The company did not disclose the specific amount of the reward for providing such information.
Mr Kalusha was arrested last month after the dismembered bodies of nine women were found at an abandoned quarry used as a garbage dump in Nairobi.
According to police, the victims were aged between 18 and 30 and were killed in a similar manner.
The escape of the high-profile suspect, described by police as a “psychotic serial killer”, has angered many Kenyans.
The incident report stated that the 13 people escaped from the police station by cutting the wire mesh on the roof and scaling the perimeter wall.
Gigiri police station is 10 km (6 miles) from the city center, an area that is home to the UN regional headquarters and many embassies.
In February this year, Kevin Kangert, a fugitive murder suspect wanted by the United States From another police station. In Nairobi, where he was being held, no one stopped him.
He was later arrested again and a court has ordered his extradition to the United States.
