Justin Timberlake appeared virtually in a Sag Harbor courtroom to plead not guilty to a DUI charge, with the judge setting a new hearing for Aug. 9.
The hearing was largely procedural. At one point, the judge reprimanded Timberlake’s attorney, Edward Burke, for comments he made to the media outside the courtroom.
The singer was arrested in June after police said he was found driving a BMW 2025 in the early hours of the morning and was “operating a vehicle while intoxicated”.
He apparently failed to stop at a stop sign or stay in his lane, according to a statement from Sag Harbor police. An officer described him as “incapable of distraction.” The officer added, “His speech was slowed, his walking was unsteady, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”
Timberlake told officers he had a martini and followed a friend home, court records show.
At a hearing in late July, his lawyer Burke disputed the claim that the artist was intoxicated and argued that he should not have been detained, claiming that “the police made a series of very significant errors in this case.”
