The Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) last weekend awarded special commendations to journalists for their outstanding work in the media industry.
Eleven awards were presented to journalists and media organisations at the MASI Media Excellence Awards ceremony held at the Heritage Park Hotel on Saturday under the theme “Celebrating the Strength and Spirit of the Solomon Islands Media”.
Speaking at the event, keynote speaker, His Excellency Jonathan Schwath, New Zealand High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, commended journalists for their hard work in covering national events.
“I want to commend all journalists for their outstanding work under difficult conditions. Covering the Pacific Games and the Joint Elections demonstrated your dedication,” he added.
Schwas said he was looking forward to journalists covering upcoming events such as the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) which the Solomon Islands will host in 2025, which he described as a major event.
MASI President Georgina Kekea encouraged MASI members to take up the responsibilities of a media association and expressed hope that the 2026 MASI Awards will be even bigger.
She thanked the members, award winners and participants for their contribution to the MASI Awards Gala.
Kekea also encouraged young journalists to rise up as MASI provides support to its members. She also thanked the major sponsors who contribute to the MASI awards.
