John Jairo Ruiz’s son, John Jhariel, stood out for his strong finishing ability and love for Saprissa

John Jaleel Arias is 11 years old. He is the son of Herediano players John Jairo Ruiz and Mebor Arias. At a very young age, the little boy played an important role in small football games with his right leg, often scoring wonderful goals in Saprissa Proceso games.

Jhariel scores from all distances: 15 meters, 20 meters… It’s not an obstacle. The excellent level of the oldest son of the Fiorentina team meant that a few weeks ago he received an invitation from his mother on her mobile phone to join the elite team of his level (U-12) from the club where his father plays.

According to Maypole, his son shot 95 percent from the free throw line.

“Herediano just called him and wanted to integrate him into the elite team. They know him and love him; however, he decided to stay in Saprissa. John and I told him that it would be better to stay in Unafort, but by his own decision, he wanted to continue in Saprissa to see if he had a chance to break into the elite ranks,” said Arias.

Maypole recalled that about four years ago, John Jr. became a football fan. She noticed that he had his father’s characteristics, such as speed, but most importantly, his closing remarks were very polite.

“John Jarrell was born in France, but when we lived in Belgium he would always kick himself, even when he was wearing those jackets that barely allowed him to move, but always behind the ball. Very fast; a lot of people asked me if he practiced track. That’s definitely something he got from John Jarrell. The difference is that it has a very good finish,” he said.

The boy’s football story began at the Rolando Fonseca Football School, but he soon had the opportunity to try out for the Monsters, who trained in Belém, and stayed there.

“We went to do Tests; we never took advantage of John Jarreau’s reach. We were there for about a year and we were very happy. They used John as a winger or wing because they took advantage of his speed,” Mother said.

Although Maple and John Jarreau decided to separate four years ago, their support for their children as parents is non-negotiable.

“My husband and his partner go to the games, and Godfather Mino Esco comes every now and then. John Jarrier is actually a big supporter,” Maypole continued.

There is no doubt that as an athlete, Jaleel has learned a lot from John Jarreau.

“You see it has a big impact, but you can say you don’t pay much attention to it. John seeks advice, but Jarrell goes his own way. Sometimes they let him practice at home, but they soon stop. In the blacksmith’s house, as they say, there is a wooden sword,” he adds with a laugh.

One non-negotiable issue for John Jarrier’s family was learning, so the boy knew full well that he had to excel academically in order to continue playing sports.

“We happen to have him very good in maths and he knows that we as a family will always support him, but he has to be disciplined. For example, when he has an exam, he studies, eats, and then we go to training. That’s the routine. We believe that studies and sports go hand in hand,” concludes the proud mother.
