Why is this important?
Turkish intelligence carried out the largest prisoner exchange in recent times in Ankara, involving 26 people. It was added that 10 prisoners, including two minors, were transferred to Russia, 13 prisoners were transferred to Germany, and 3 were transferred to the United States. Among those mentioned were reportedly Evan Gershkovich, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, and Paul Whelan, a former soldier sentenced to 16 years in prison in Russia.
What did the Presidential Palace say?
“Tonight, President Joe Biden called President Andrzej Duda to thank Polish authorities for their help in freeing American citizens wrongfully imprisoned in Russia. During the call, the two Presidents emphasized the strength of the alliance and strategic partnership between Poland and the United States,” we read in the statement.
