In Teahupoo, travel conditions on land and sea will be strengthened, but residents, especially fishermen of a certain age, do not like the rules. They are completely disconnected from social networks and feel they are poorly informed.

A week later, from July 20, boats will no longer be allowed to dock at Faremahora Point. The restrictions are clear: swimming along the coastline will still be allowed, but traffic, navigation and all marine activities will be prohibited in the town’s lagoon.
Milton Parker, Pensions Manager at PK 0, explains:The safety zone will stretch from Pootoe Pass on the Fenua Aihere side to behind Teahupoo Marina, at Teavaino Pass. The entire area will be policed.“
The only exceptions will be residents of Fenua Aihere, day-trippers and professional fishing boats affiliated with the Teahupo’o Cooperative. They will be allowed to circulate in two separate corridors set up specifically for the event. Milton Parker noted that having a flag is essential: “It was like a flag, but I don’t remember what color it was. With these flags we could move around and go to the surfing spots. There were other flags where they only had authorization to sail on the water, but not to enter the spot.“
Christophe Sanféro, Head of the Maritime Activities Department at DPAM, completed the message, stating: “We hope there won’t be any sanctions. There will be a fairly significant security system and police on the water to enforce that system and effectively prevent boats from disrupting or endangering the safety of the event.“
In Vairao, the restrictions are not uniform, as some fishermen have failed to take steps to obtain permits. Varink Tama, treasurer of Vairao R Cooperativelook argument:”Not everyone has Facebook. Because most of the information is on Facebook. Some fishermen are old and don’t have Facebook at all. It’s on TV, but sometimes you can’t see TV here. And then, Polynesians, as they say, we always get up at the last minute to visit the town.“
The entrance and exit of the Havaai Pass will be reserved for certified fishermen and members of the Olympic Committee. The Ministry of Major Works assures us that offenders who do not comply with the regulations will be prosecuted and fined at the second level.
