Investigator Nicola Bulley says he can find answers for Jay Slater’s family within three days

A detective working on Nicola Bulley’s case has claimed he could provide answers to Jay Slater’s family “within three days” if he was allowed to join the search.

The family of the missing 19-year-old accepted his services pro bono on Sunday, which is now entering its seventh day.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “I can quickly determine if there are suspicious circumstances – but I need to fully understand all the circumstances and speak to all relevant witnesses.”

“Keep your feet on the ground, observe the situation and environment, and I know that I can find out the truth within three days.

“If the family is willing to cooperate with me, I will give them answers. This is vital for them. Dealing with foreign police who handle things differently is difficult for them.

He added: “But I need their full cooperation and I need to speak to every witness involved in this case, including those who have been with him since he came to the island. Some are more suspicious than others.

“It’s been a week now – I need to get there and get them answers. I need to find Jay. I’m here on credibility and I’m going to work with them and the Spanish police to get them the answers they need.

“We need to determine what the relationship was between the two people (he was staying with), why he returned to the Airbnb and why he left? He could have been lost, but is there another reason?”

Jay Slater’s mother reveals she was trolled by online prankster who called herself ‘Karen Matthews’

Jay Slater’s mother said she was viciously attacked on social media because she chose not to join other family members at the search site above the village of Muska.

Debbie Duncan, 55, said her decision had led to comparisons with Karen Matthews, the mother who in 2008 faked the kidnapping of her nine-year-old daughter, Shannon Matthews.

Ms. Duncan told Daily Mail: “People kept asking on social media why I wasn’t there and calling me the new Karen Matthews, and I just couldn’t deal with it.

“I don’t want to go up there for fear of seeing something I don’t want. I just hope everything will be alright. If I go up there, I’ll fall apart.

“The last few days have been terrible. I just want him back. He’s a good-looking lad from Lancashire and Tenerife shouldn’t be without him.”
