2024 marks the 30th anniversary of Palau’s independence and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Palau. In addition, the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders’ Meeting (PALM10) will be held in Tokyo from July 16 to 18, with representatives from 18 Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) countries, including Palau and Japan, attending.
To celebrate these days, the Embassy of Japan in Palau is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a Japanese Culture Week to introduce Judo and Kimono to various schools in Palau, including Angar Elementary School, Peleliu Elementary School, and Kayangol Elementary School. This is not only to celebrate the long-standing diplomatic relations, but also to deepen mutual understanding.
Judo, based on the principles of discipline and respect, will be demonstrated through interactive demonstrations, allowing students to experience first-hand this traditional form of fighting, now known as a martial art. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the kimono dress, highlighting its rich history and significance in Japanese customs.
Through these activities, Japan Culture Week aims to deepen cultural exchanges and strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two countries. The Embassy looks forward to engaging with Palauan students and educators in a spirit of celebration and collaboration to promote cultural diversity and mutual learning.
