Apia, Samoa – August 8, 2024 – Yesterday, the Japanese Ambassador HE Mr. SENTA and representatives of the Project Committee signed two projects funded by the Japanese Government.
The first is to rebuild the Samatao Primary School and the second is to improve the water supply system in Satupaytea district.
The projects are funded by Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The Samatao Primary School Committee received a grant of up to $148,151 (approximately SAR 400,000) to rebuild its old school building, which was deemed unsafe and forced students to attend classes at nearby family homes.
The project involves the reconstruction of a single-storey school building with eight classrooms, a library, a staff room and a principal’s office. The project aims to significantly improve the quality of basic education services in Samatao Village by creating a safe and conducive educational environment.

The Independent Water Scheme Association, a non-profit organization, was awarded a grant of up to $169,971 (approximately SAR 458,000) to improve the water supply system in the Satupa’itea district of Savai’i.
The project will replace old pipes, rehabilitate water intakes, build new dams, and install filters, pressure reducing valves, and water kiosks with taps, basins, and filters at the district hospital. The project, managed by the community and registered with the Association of Independent Water Schemes, aims to ensure a reliable water supply system that will improve the living and health environment of residents in the Satupa’itea district.
The Japanese Ambassador, Mr. SENTA, said that the Japanese Government looks forward to the successful implementation of these projects and believes that they will have a lasting positive impact on the communities involved. Japan remains committed to working closely with local partners to promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life for all through its GGP.
