On August 19, students from Mindszenty High School and Emmaus Bethania High School joined the Ariake team for an hour-long celebration of music, tradition and friendship.
The event, which attracted about 100 participants, kicked off in traditional style with a ceremonial blowing of a conch shell (called a “debusech”) and two soulful Palauan songs, “esols” and “Delang,” sung by Mindszenty students, setting a strong cultural tone for the afternoon.
The atmosphere was electric when the Ariake team took to the stage. Their Kendo performance captured the audience’s attention, showcasing their skills and precision in the ancient Japanese martial art. The highlight of the performance was the interactive session, where students had the opportunity to try out some Kendo moves themselves, adding a hands-on element to the experience.
In addition to the kendo performances, the Ariake team entertained the audience with a lively band performance, adding a musical touch to the event. The auditorium was full of energy as students cheered for their classmates and enthusiastically volunteered to participate in the kendo performances.
Although the event was short, it left a lasting impression on all who attended. The joy and excitement shared by the participants highlighted the success of this cultural exchange, which deepened the understanding and appreciation of each other’s traditions.
The cooperation and enthusiasm of students and staff made this hour an extraordinary celebration of cultural diversity and mutual respect.
