On August 19, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer Ariake held a ceremony to commemorate its 30th anniversary of commissioning.day On the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Palau, Palau’s top officials and Japanese representatives gathered to strengthen the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The event was not only a symbol of friendly relations, but also a platform for discussing regional security and cooperation.
In attendance were several senior Palauan officials, including State Minister Gustav N. Aitaro, Senate Vice President Kerai Mariur, House Speaker Gibson Kanai, National Security Coordinator Jennifer Anson, Acting Director of Public Safety Temdik Ngirblekuu, Palau Patrol Ship Kedam Lt. Commander Mace Ngirmeriil and Palau Patrol Ship Remeliik II Lt. Commander Allison Baiei.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Hiroyuki Orikasa stressed the importance of JS Ariake’s visit in his remarks. The Ambassador noted that the visit not only strengthened the enduring friendship between Japan and Palau, but also highlighted the joint efforts of both sides to ensure peace and stability in the region. “Presence is deterrence,” he noted, stressing the importance of maintaining a visible cooperative presence in Palau and the region.
Minister Aitaro expressed Palau’s deep appreciation for Japan’s continued support, especially in combating illegal activities and supporting regional peace initiatives. The Minister recognized the important partnership between the two countries in maintaining security and promoting prosperity throughout the region.
