PARIS, France — Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson lost by the narrowest of margins to world champion Noah Lyles of the United States, who set a personal best of 9.79 seconds to take the gold medal.

This is the same time set by Thompson, the fastest man in the world this season, in the final.

Fred Klee of the United States finished third with a time of 9.81 seconds, and Akin Simbine of South Africa finished fourth with a time of 9.82 seconds. Another Jamaican representative, Obulik Sevilla, finished eighth with a time of 9.91 seconds, ranking last. All eight athletes finished within 10 seconds.

Thompson’s silver medal win brings Jamaica’s medal tally to three after Shanieka Ricketts and Rajindra Campbell won silver and bronze, respectively, on Saturday.
