Jamaica’s Omar McLeod and Kadrien Goldson put in impressive performances to claim victory in their respective events at the 2024 Tampere Motorcycle Grand Prix in Finland on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Brittany Anderson continued her comeback from injury with a top-three finish in the 100m hurdles.
2016 Olympic gold medalist McLeod won the 110m hurdles in 13.47 seconds in poor wind conditions of -1.1 m/s.
McLeod was competing for the first time since June at the Jamaican National Championships, where he ran a season-best 13.22. Although he admitted his speed was a little rusty, he still finished comfortably ahead of Elmo Lakka of Finland, who finished second in 13.72, and Manuel Mordi, who finished third in 13.78.
Steady progress
“I haven’t raced in two months so it was great to be able to race this ahead of the upcoming Diamond League,” said a beaming McLeod. “It was a strong headwind but I’m just happy to be healthy enough to finish the race.”

Meanwhile, McLeod’s training partner Brittany Anderson continued her steady improvement following knee surgery, finishing third in the women’s 100m hurdles. Anderson, who won silver at the 2022 world championships, clocked 12.97 seconds, just behind Canada’s Mariam Abdul-Rashid, who finished second in 12.96. Finland’s Retta Helske won in 12.87 seconds.
Jamaica’s winning ways continued as Kadrien Goldson put in a strong performance in the men’s 100m final, beating his American opponent, finishing second in the preliminaries in 10.21 seconds behind JT Smith (10.18) but eventually winning the final in 10.30 seconds. Coby Hilton finished second in 10.31 seconds and Smith was third in 10.33 seconds.
Goldson’s win highlighted his ability to handle pressure as he battled back in the closing stages of the race to outlast his competition and take a well-deserved victory.
