In celebration of Jamaica’s 62nd Independence Anniversary, the Consulate General of Jamaica in Miami will hold its annual Christian Service on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.
The event will be held at the Faith Center located at 5555 NW 95th Avenue in Sunrise, Florida.
This year’s sermon will be delivered by Bishop Clive Porter, senior pastor of Victory Place International Worship Center in Lauderhill. Dr. Clyde Bailey, senior pastor of Faith Place Church in Miramar, will lead the sermon.
The ceremony will include an official message from Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and will feature performances by several local artists including gospel artist Papa San, the South Florida Caribbean Choir (SFCC) conducted by Steve Higgins, the Tallawah Mento Band conducted by Colin Smith and the Jamaican Folk Performance Group.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Jamaica – Giving Love to the World”. Consul General Oliver Meier invited Jamaicans and expatriates to attend the service to celebrate Jamaica’s independence.

Meier also called on the diaspora community and friends to unite and continue the Hurricane Beryl recovery efforts, saying, “We will continue to work together to recover from Hurricane Beryl.” Proceeds from the service will support Hurricane Beryl relief efforts in Jamaica, coordinated by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).

The annual ecumenical ceremony is a cherished tradition that brings together the Jamaican community in South Florida to celebrate the nation’s independence and support its ongoing recovery and development initiatives.
