It was reported that at 8:01 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, a moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 occurred in Jamaica, with the epicenter located approximately 6 kilometers northeast of Golden Springs, St. Andrew.

The epicenter was reportedly 6 km northeast of St. Andrew’s Golden Springs, with a focal depth of 10 km. The tremor was felt across the island. No casualties or major losses have been reported so far.
The last major earthquake of similar magnitude was 5.4 magnitude earthquake hits Jamaica Last October, an earthquake struck the island of Jamaica, causing minor structural damage across the island. The general consensus among Jamaicans on social media was that it was the strongest earthquake to hit the island in at least 20 years.
