Italy’s National Labor Bank (BNL) has launched an NFC trial in Rome and plans to expand it to online and offline mobile payments and loyalty programs.
BNL, part of the BNP Paribas Group, launched the trial last week. The bank is installing the Mastercard PayPass credit application on SIM cards issued by Vodafone Italia and Three Italy. The cards will work on the NFC-enabled Samsung Galaxy S III, according to presentations by Arianna Azzolini, BNL’s head of cards and everyday banking, and Bruno Prexl, BNP Paribas’ payments innovation manager, at the NFC and Mobile Money Summit last week.
About 150 customers and employees will take part in the trial, which is expected to end in March.
