Israeli government press secretary David Mercer made the statement to the press following a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, The Jerusalem Post reported.
David Mercer expressed Netanyahu’s commitment to “a physical presence of Israeli troops at the Philadelphia crossing.”
Mercer also stressed that negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza and a bilateral prisoner exchange are ongoing. “We are working on a framework agreement based on the terms proposed by the United States in May to allow our citizens to return home,” he said.
On May 27, Netanyahu demanded the inclusion of new conditions, claiming that the draft agreement proposed by US President Biden was different from the proposal prepared by Israel.
The Israeli prime minister wants to continue Israel’s occupation of the Nezarim corridor that divides Gaza and the Rafah crossing near Philadelphia’s border with the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
