A young boy accidentally broke a 3,500-year-old vase while visiting the Israel Museum.
The Hector Museum in Haifa told the BBC that the artifact, which dates from the Bronze Age between 2200 and 1500 BC, is rare because of its excellent preservation. The artifact is in a display case at the entrance of the museum without protective glass because the institution considers it “special” to display archaeological artifacts “without obstacles”.
The museum said it was an accident and the boy and his family have been invited back for an organized outing. According to the museum, the incident occurred a few days ago while the boy, who was about 4-5 years old, was visiting the museum.
“There are cases where something is damaged intentionally and such cases are treated very harshly, including by the police. But that is not the case. The vase was accidentally damaged by a small child and the answer would be appropriate.”
The specialist will be responsible for restoring the vase to its previous condition and returning it to its original location in a short time.
