Bahadori Jahromi made the remarks in X-Message, responding to what was mentioned in the last televised debate centered on economic issues before the runoff election scheduled for July 5.
Masoud Pezeshkian and Sayyed Jalili, who have qualified for the second round of the 14th presidential election, launched their race on Tuesday evening, outlining the economic plans they would adopt if they win the country’s top executive post.
They claimed they were not part of former President Hassan Rouhani’s third government, but they became uneasy when they heard that inflation was as high as 80 percent at the time, Bahadori Jahromi said on Tuesday.
The government said that during Rouhani’s administration, the producer price index rose to 103%, and the martyr Raisi inherited this situation, but did not publicize the problem in order to calm the people.
He noted that, thanks to President Lacey’s efforts, that number has dropped to 23 percent.
In the debate later on Tuesday, Pezeshkian and Jalili shifted the focus to the cost of living, consumption and people’s stress, and what they would do to lift their compatriots out of the current dire economic situation.
