Archbishop IPS Teodosie of Tomis pointed out that spouses should not “enjoy carnal pleasures” more than twice a week, especially during holidays and fasting periods. Church leaders said this is what canon law provides.

“Monks give up all pleasures in order to gain God. In this world, pleasure is allowed between husband and wife. However, must the husband also give up pleasure in order to win God?”Archbishop Tomis was asked during his weekly show on Radio Dobrogea.

The senior cleric responded that intimate relations between spouses should not occur more than twice a week and only when there are no holidays or fasting periods.

“Of course! Spouses should not make pleasure the goal of life. That is why canon law does not allow intimate meetings between spouses every day, but twice a week without holidays and fasting, or not at all. We have seven weeks before Easter, six weeks before Christmas, two weeks of fasting, we have the fast of the Holy Apostles, we have holidays, and then, look, no pleasure… People must abstain from sex and even forget about it because they are focused on prayer, moments of communion with God”, Theodosia said.

News.ro noted that he cited families where spouses rarely have intimate relations and only have the intention of having children.

“There are even families who live an abstinent life and rarely meet just to have children,” Teodosio added.
