Mauricio Arriaza Chicas, director of the National Civil Police (PNC), and Gustavo Villatoro, the Minister of Security, inaugurated the new police station in the small village of El Mozote. The station, which represents an investment of more than US$740,000, has two floors and includes a video surveillance system, a citizen complaint compartment and a user service office.

The team of 30 PNC officers, including personnel from the Public Security, Rural Police, Intelligence, Investigation and Mounted Police, will be responsible for protecting the residents of El Mozote and maintaining reconciliation with the residents.

“Today, we are here to fulfill the promise of the President of the Republic to give the inhabitants of this place a dignified life,” Arriaza Chicas said, adding that the necessary conditions have been created so that the police stationed at the station can better perform their work.

The Minister of Security, Gustavo Villatoro, highlighted the peculiarities of the new headquarters, noting that 80% of the energy consumption will be generated by solar panels, allowing the station to operate independently for more than nine hours in the event of a power outage. In addition, the installation is resilient, collecting and storing rainwater in a 20 cubic meter cistern to guarantee supply during the dry season.
