The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, met with the young people of the country on the occasion of International Youth Day. On Friday, August 9, 2024, they did not have to arrive at the assembly point at the Ouaga 2000 Sports Palace, where thousands of people listened to the President’s speech.
It is 8:00 am, Friday morning, August 9, 2024, and many young people have come from all over the world to meet the head of state, Ibrahim Traoré. They come by bus, motorcycle and even bicycle. After arriving at the west side of the Ouaga 2000 Sports Palace, the police stopped the game about 400 meters from the entrance gate to check everyone’s badge. Those who have it, pass. Those who don’t, wait and negotiate access. An endless parking lot has also been built here.
As we continued walking, we saw a team of about seven journalists, equipped with cameras and tripods, who had come to record the moment. They were stuck there because they didn’t have a badge to get through. “I didn’t even know we had to have a badge. Anyway, we’ve been here for a while, but they (referring to the police) said we couldn’t get through,” he told us.
Furthermore, the main entrance to the venue was inaccessible. Partygoers had to circle the venue and enter through the entrance door on the west side. On this level, a line about 200 meters long formed in front of the entrance door. Men on one side, women on the other, each passed through a police scanner and then joined another line in the courtyard.
There, the authenticity of the badges is verified. Some are still wearing their badges and are put aside, while others are passed through. “It seems that there are badges they accept and there are those they reject. The ones they reject seem to be fake. That’s why they reject the holders,” explained a young man in the crowd.
Note that young people from other member countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) are also present at this meeting. They identify themselves by the flags hanging around their necks and by the priority they receive for participating in the ceremony. The room is already full, and the outside world is close to the inside world. While waiting for the President to speak, the palace is filled with entertainment produced by artists who have come specifically for this cause.
More details coming soon.
