Muscat: The International Series has underlined its commitment to the development of golf at the grassroots level in Oman with a donation of US$25,000 to the Oman Golf Federation to support its ongoing efforts to encourage greater participation in the sport of golf in the region.

International Series Director Rahul Singh and Asian Tour Commissioner and CEO Cho Minn Thant addressed Oman Golf Association Chairman Eng Munthir bin Salim al Barwani on the sidelines of the International Series Oman, the first of 10 high-level tournaments sanctioned by the Asian Tour to provide a pathway for players into the LIV Golf League.

Singh said: “We recognise the important role that the International Series plays in the wider golf ecosystem and part of that is giving back to the host communities that support our tournaments.

“Our contribution to the Oman Golf Association is a sustainable commitment that will help grow the game of golf in the region, bring the game to a wider population and discover and unlock the potential of untapped talent in the region.”

Al Balwani added: “This significant contribution will help us in our ongoing quest to promote the game of golf to a wider population and provide new players with the tools they need to develop and improve their skills and enjoy this wonderful game as part of a healthy, active lifestyle for all ages.”

During the tournament week, the Oman Golf Association brought several youngsters to the Al Mouj Golf Course to participate in a special training camp and experience the preparation process for the tournament, which brings the big names of the LIV Golf League and the top players of the Asian Tour to Oman.

The Oman Golf Association is committed to promoting the development of golf in the region through two initiatives. The Oman Golf Association, in partnership with the Golf Foundation, launched the R&A’s “Unleash Your Drive” campaign, a six-week golf introduction program for primary school students designed to teach young golf skills and mental toughness.

The “Go Ladies” campaign is part of the Oman Golf Association’s (OGA) efforts to promote golf to women and is part of the “Women in Golf” charter signed by the association in 2018. The campaign offers golf lessons to women at four of the five golf clubs in the Sultanate.
