Improved maize yields in integrated agro-pastoral cropping systems in northern Ghana

go through

Small-scale mixed farming systems in northern Ghana have low overall productivity due to poor integration between crop and livestock farming.

Farmers tether sheep and goats to fallow land to recover manure and urine for use in crops, but data are limited on the effects of sheep and goat stocking density (SSD) on grain yield and soil properties in such systems. The effects of SSD, maize planting density (MPD), and nitrogen fertilizer (N) levels on grain yield were evaluated.
