KUWAIT CITY, August 15: The Mubarakiya Inspection Center of the Kuwait Public Authority for Food and Nutrition conducted an inspection of food businesses in the capital governorate, which resulted in the closure of 12 businesses and the issuance of several violation reports.
Ali Hashem Al-Kandari, director of the Capital Governorate’s Inspection Department, said the closure of the stores was due to the discovery of multiple violations. These included the display of meat and fish that were unfit for human consumption and had noticeable changes in their natural properties, such as color, shape and smell. In addition, the inspections revealed the circulation of adulterated food, including meat of unknown origin and without any information on nutritional content, as well as the operation of facilities that were not properly licensed by the authorities.
Kandari further explained that some violations are serious enough to be referred to the prosecution and fines could be as high as KD 100,000. He urged business owners to strictly adhere to personal hygiene standards while working, not to operate food without obtaining the necessary health certificates, and to ensure that all employees are certified. He also stressed the importance of complying with general hygiene regulations within food businesses.
He reiterated the importance of continuing these inspections to ensure the safety of food for consumers. Al-Kandari called on food business owners to comply with hygiene norms, requirements and food safety standards.
