Davao City
The Obo people, the indigenous people who live in the heart of the region, call the river Davoh; the Kelata or Guian call it Duhwow or Davau; the Tababawa Bagbo call it Dabu. For the Obo, the word Davoh also means “beyond the highlands,” an allusion to the settlements that surround the high, rolling hills at the mouth of the Davao River.
When asked where they were going, they would usually answer “Davao” while pointing in the direction of the town. Duvao also referred to a trading settlement where they would exchange forest products for salt or other commodities.
