INDECOM investigating Negril police shooting of robber | News

The Independent Investigative Commission (INDECOM) is investigating the shooting deaths of five men by police during an attempted robbery in Negril, Westmoreland County today.

INDECOM said the current information is that four of them are confirmed dead and the fifth is being treated for injuries.

In addition, six weapons were reportedly seized in connection with the incident.

INDECOM said it had learnt that an intelligence-based police operation had intercepted an attempted robbery.

The police squad’s interception resulted in five men being shot dead.

INDECOM said no security force members or bystanders were known to be injured.

The watchdog said its teams remained on site carrying out extensive investigative operations.

INDECOM’s crime scene examiners are inspecting and processing the scene, including the two vehicles.

Recovered evidential materials will also be packaged.

Samples will be taken from the deceased’s hands for DNA testing and the body will be photographed and sealed pending an autopsy.

While the witness investigation is ongoing, INDECOM is calling on anyone who witnessed the fatal shooting to contact the commission’s office at 876-968-1932.

INDECOM reminds the public that if they have photos, videos or information of incidents involving members of the security forces, they should provide them to the Commission and share them.
