According to the politician, although discussions with the former controller had been going on for some time, J. Vaičiulis agreed to take part in the elections just hours before the deadline for submitting documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

“Since he was no longer working, he decided to quit the party and return to his roots. It was difficult for the man to make up his mind, but I kept talking to him and he broke down. You could say it was in the last hours, not days, but hours,” he stressed.

At the time, the former head of the municipality at the center of the story of A. Vyšniauskas’ “inspection” refused to comment on the matter.

“I don’t want to comment on this matter in order not to cause resonance. I can’t talk now because everything has to be true and official. It’s impossible to talk rudely,” J. Vaičiulis told Elta.

As the portal delfi.lt previously announced, until Tuesday the former controller belonged to the Conservative Party. However, J. Vaičiulis himself assured the portal that party affiliation has nothing to do with the information published at the beginning of the week about A. Vyšniauskas’s recusation from the audit. Juozas Vaičiulis, the former administrator of the municipality, explained that the legal immunity applicable to councillors prevented the examination of members of Parliament.

However, remembering his long-time party member, J. Vaičiulis made it clear that the Fatherland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party (TS-LKD) has deviated from the path of Christian democracy.

“I belong to the Lithuanian Christian Democratic political movement since 1992. This movement is very close to me. Based on it, I understand that the life of society must be built, and now there are many people who have strayed from the foundations of this nation.”

ELTA reminds that last Thursday, Attorney General Nida Grunskienė appealed to Parliament to lift the legal immunity of former conservative MP A. Vyšniauskas.

The Prosecutor’s Office reported that A. Vyšniauskas may have submitted forged documents to the Marijampole Municipality regarding the reimbursement of expenses for his activities as a committee member. It is understood that the politician was illegally paid more than 2,100. EUR. The Parliament will make the final decision on lifting the MP’s immunity.

Shortly after the Attorney General’s Office made the announcement, Visniauskas announced that he would suspend his membership in the TS-LKD and resign from his post as the elder statesman of the conservative wing of parliament. The politician also said that he would no longer continue to be active in the parliamentary law and order committee.
