“Two days later, I was on my shift at the Radiology Institute and I received a message from a cardiac intensive care nurse who was two steps away from my department,” Ben Simon explained the sequence of events. “She asked if I had anything to do with the resuscitation of the patient who had collapsed in the gym and said he was also looking for me and asked to meet with me. It turned out that he had gone to the Rambam and was admitted in front of my department and was being treated with us. All this time he had been across the hall and I had no idea!

“Of course I ran to see him, I was so emotional and I wanted so badly to give him a hug and see that he was OK. His whole family was there. It was a wonderful moment.

“In retrospect, the man’s name is Dario, he is an assistant nurse in charge of general intensive care at Hillel Yafei Hospital and a member of the hospital’s resuscitation team, a person who is accustomed to personally performing resuscitation and saving lives.

I am happy to report that he has recovered well and is home from the hospital, and I wish him good health and many more years saving lives,” she said, adding, “This is a reminder that it is important to have as many defibrillators in every public place as possible, and also – learn how to perform CPR, you never know who you may encounter and in what situation. It can save lives.”
