St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): As crime scenes are once again cordoned off, the collective grief and trauma in St. Kitts and Nevis can hardly be ignored, as citizens and residents continue to demand explanations and action on the ongoing murders in the Commonwealth.
On the evening of Tuesday, August 20, news quickly broke that the newly elected Central Chairperson of the People’s Labour Party, 42-year-old Azziwah Niles-Jones, had been murdered.
Police found the Lower Prickle Pear Alley resident’s body lying motionless in the driver’s seat of a pickup truck at Holland Ghaut, outside Keys Village. The body had multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead by District Medical Officer Dr. Quincy Rubaine.
The car was located on the hill side of the road, facing in the direction of Basseterre, with its lights on.
Another passenger in the vehicle, Vadel Benjamin, 23, of Lower Cayon, was taken to Mary Charles Hospital and later transferred to Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the neck.
A large crowd gathered at the scene and traffic was stopped nearby as crime scene technicians took photographs and collected evidence relevant to further investigation.
Police continue to call for the community’s cooperation in bringing the perpetrators to justice. Anyone with information that could assist with the investigation is asked to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 1-869-662-2468 or Crime Line 707.
