Former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said citizens calling for the breakup of Nigeria should give up the idea.
Buratai, who spoke at the 60th birthday celebrations of the King of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyerude, in Kuta, Osun State on Sunday, noted that the country will continue to remain united.
He believed that those who agitated for the secession of the country must be prepared to have their portion of the land taken away and moved to the ocean.
He noted that the civil war showed that agitation to divide the country would ultimately fail, while further calling for unity to further the development of Nigeria.

He said: “You know Nigeria is one country, unless you take away those agitators and let them drift to the Atlantic Ocean. We will always remain one country and anyone who wants to leave Nigeria should take that part of the land to the Atlantic Ocean and not within Nigerian territory. The extent of integration is very clear.
“There are a lot of Hausa people here, a lot of Yoruba and Igbo people in the north. So we should not let politics blind us to our sense of unity and sovereignty.
“Anyone who says they want to leave Nigeria is a dreamer because we had a painful experience during the civil war. So this is not something we joke about.”
