This has added to the furor surrounding the national memorial ceremony on October 7. Regev was appointed minister in charge of the controversial ceremony on behalf of the government, and after a press conference, media personality Hanoch Dom announced yesterday that he had personally presided over an alternative ceremony for the families of the fallen and murdered – and attacked the minister’s words.
“After listening to you Miri Regev’s hurtful and painful words“I personally presided over the national memorial ceremony for the victims and the families of the kidnapped,” Dom wrote on Facebook. “I spoke with the organizers of the ceremony and I promised that it would be a national ceremony in which all Israelis would unite, which would give space to Israel’s various pains and memories. Just as our heroes stood side by side on that cursed Sabbath, we will also stand together, left and right, religious and secular, and embrace each other in their memory.”
At a press conference in Jerusalem yesterday, she addressed the wave of boycotts announced by the kibbutz and the families of the abductees at the ceremony. Regev underestimated the anger and pain of survivorsVictims and families of the October 7 massacre called it “background noise.” She also drew outrageous comparisons between the kibbutz’s independence initiative and Israeli-Palestinian memorial services. She has since accused the media of distorting what she herself said on camera.
Regev used the word “noise” to describe criticism of settlements attacked during the massacre, as well as other statements in the press conference.
