On April 11, 2024, the trial of Mr. Semi Sago concluded with his conviction for the charge of possessing a group of illegal drugs (methamphetamine) with intent to sell to another person and for possession of a controlled substance (ice).
Now his sentence has been read, and he was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for unlawful possession of a group of drugs (methamphetamine); but was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $20,000 for unlawful possession of a batch of drugs (methamphetamine).
These sentences will run concurrently.
According to court records, a special team of the Police (Drugs and Narcotics) raided Sago’s house in Aua tomorrow (tomorrow) September 27, 2022, searching for drugs and high-powered weapons.
Police found Sego sleeping in his bedroom, but when he woke up, he reached for something near the window, causing officers to lock him inside without securing them.
When Sego’s bedroom was searched, a K-9 detective dog was called in and found a box containing $860 in cash and a surgical straw partially filled with drugs. Other items found in the bedroom included a smoking pipe, a small plastic bag and a notebook.
The drugs found in the man’s room were taken away and, upon investigation, confirmed to be part of the Ice Clan drug.
On June 12, 2024, Sago’s verdict was read, and according to Deputy Attorney General Roy JD Hall, Jr., who appeared for the government in this case, it was believed in court that this was the first time someone had been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison on drug charges.
