Karim Khan firmly believes that any further delay will undermine the rights of Palestinian victims
Geoff Galante
International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan has asked judges to urgently issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
“Any unreasonable delay in these proceedings is harmful and will affect the rights of the victims,” Han stressed.
He added that the ICC had jurisdiction over Israeli citizens who “commit crimes on Palestinian territory” and asked judges to reject legal objections from dozens of governments.
ICC prosecutors found that there were reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Garland, as well as Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and the movement’s military chief Mohammed Diab al-Masri, “were criminally responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
Netanyahu has rejected the conclusion of the International Court of Justice, which declared that Jewish settler settlements in the Jordanian West Bank amounted to annexation.
