The office of former Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) director-general Guntilla Muleya has been cordoned off and declared a crime scene following his brutal murder. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Media Thabo Kawana has confirmed that police are guarding the premises round the clock to ensure the integrity of the investigation.
Speaking at the Mass Media Centre in Lusaka, Mr Kavanagh stressed to IBA staff the importance of their cooperation with the police and other investigation agencies. He announced that IBA staff will not be allowed to use their offices until further notice and will temporarily work from ZNBC Cinema.
“The safety and cooperation of IBA staff is of utmost importance during this time,” said Mr Kawana. “Staff should be prepared to assist investigators and may need to enter their offices as required by the investigation.”
Key guidance from IBA staff during the investigation included:
- Cooperation with the authorities: Employees are urged to cooperate fully with police and investigations.
- Temporary work location: Crews will be working from the Mass Media Theatre lobby until further notice.
- Meeting Facilities: Employees should be reachable by phone 24/7.
- Arrival at the office: Some staff may enter their offices as needed at the direction of the investigators.
Mr. Kawana also urged the public not to spread false information about the incident, stressing that the situation has left the entire country in shock and fear. He assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the police will provide daily updates to prevent misinformation.
“The investigation is progressing well,” Mr Kavanagh added. “Police and the Ministry of Information and Media will provide regular updates to keep the nation informed.”
As the investigation into the circumstances of Mr Mullaiya’s death continues, people across the country remain on edge.
