On the afternoon of April 13, a traffic police squad was on duty on the M5 Minsk-Gomel highway in the village of Krasno. When checking the documents of a man driving a VAZ-21214, his Soviet-era driver’s license aroused police suspicion of its authenticity. From the outside, the driver had nothing in common with the person in the photo.
When the document was checked using a dedicated traffic police database, it was determined that the ID card did not belong to the person driving the vehicle. However, the driver continued to insist that the ID card was genuine and that he was who he said he was.
During further investigation, the police confirmed the identity of the driver. It turned out that he was a 58-year-old resident of Michurinsky, a small agricultural town in Gomel Oblast, who was deprived of his driving rights in 2012 for drunk driving.
If the inspection confirms the state traffic inspector’s suspicions, a more serious clause – falsification of documents – may be added to the agreement against the man for operating a vehicle without a license.
