Hydrology: Government announces partial opening of gates of Sringu Dam

The director of the National Water Resources Department and chairman of the Water Management Committee of the Sringu Reservoir and Markala Dam said:

On August 6, 2024, the water level upstream of Slingu Dam was 343.09 m IGN.

Given the importance of water supply to the upper Sankarani basin in Guinea, and in accordance with the operational instructions, and in order to ensure the safety of buildings, people and property, the Mali Energy Institute will partially open the gates of the Slingu Dam from 10 am on Tuesday, August 13, 2024

This scenario would lead to a gradual release of water, potentially causing a sharp rise in water levels in the lower Niger River.

Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of people and their property, users and residents of the Niger River are requested to take appropriate measures to avoid any inconvenience.
