HAMILTON, Aug. 16 (LATINO NEWS) Bermuda today suspended non-essential public services, disrupted sea, land and air traffic and closed numerous streets as a precaution against the imminent passage of Hurricane Ernesto through its territory.
The government announced that state offices would remain open until 4:00 p.m. local time, buses would stop running at 7:00 p.m., and the airport and ferry terminal would stop running at 8:00 p.m.
All these missions will be cancelled over the weekend and may be extended if the cyclone passes through the country causing severe damage.
Meanwhile, authorities are mobilizing resources to avoid losses from rain, flooding and other hazards that may be associated with the storm.
They also urged the public to follow instructions and stay informed through official channels to know how to respond in case of an emergency.
Bermuda awaits the immediate impact of Ernesto this Saturday, which caused severe material damage, power outages and flooding in Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
