The Ministry of Health calculated the costs for patients hospitalized in state hospitals between January and April 2024, ranging from 100 lek for patients undergoing radiotherapy to about 344,000 lek per patient for inpatients in psychiatric hospitals.

The highest cost per patient was about $344,000ALL based on psychiatric hospitalizations. ALL costs for patients hospitalized for heart disease were as high as $21,000.

The lowest cost per patient was calculated for patients with cancer who received radiotherapy. The cost per patient was 100 ALL.

According to the data from the Ministry of Health’s monitoring report, the number of hospitalized patients in the period from January to April was 105,722, compared with an expected 397,580, at a cost of 78,740 per person. Compared with January to April 2023, the number of hospitalizations in this period increased by 6%.

Compared to January-April 2023, cardiology inpatient admissions increased by 3%.

According to the Ministry of Health, the number of patients treated with the cardiology and cardiac surgery package was 3,309 patients, compared to the expected 9,720 patients, at a cost of BRL 20,713 per patient.

The number of beds in psychiatric hospitals has been drastically reduced.

The psychiatric department has the highest cost per patient due to the increase in staff. From January to April 2023, the National Psychiatric Hospital admitted 730 patients, a 40% decrease from the same period of the previous year. The cost of treatment was calculated to be 343,920 ALL/patient.

The Ministry of Health report said that “the deviation of the product was to increase the number of employees and thus increase the wage fund.”

During the radiotherapy period from January to April 2024, 10,133 patients were treated with radiotherapy compared to the expected 25,091 patients at a cost of 100 ALL per patient. This is a 22% increase in the number of patients treated compared to January to April 2023.

In addition, from January to April, 67,125 dialysis patients were treated at a cost of ALL 10,652/time. Compared with the same period in 2023, the number of dialysis sessions increased by 9%.

In the first four months of 2024, the number of patients treated for cataracts was 1,465, compared to the expected 4,326, at a cost per patient of 1,433 ALL. Their numbers increased by about 5%.

The number of patients with reimbursable drugs increased by 12% from January to April 2024

According to the Ministry of Health, 392,075 patients were treated with the list of reimbursable drugs between January and April 2024, with each patient costing 4,578 cases of ALL.

The number of patients with chronic diseases on the reimbursement drug list increased by approximately 12%.

Of the 12 billion ALL, 4.2 billion ALL is used for reimbursement of catalogue drugs, accounting for 34.7% of the annual plan.

During the period, based on the statistical analysis of the amount of drug reimbursement accepted, 4.2456 billion indicative lists were received, an increase of 75.7 million (1.8%) over the same period last year.

In the first four months, 392,075 patients benefited from the reimbursement drug list, an increase of 42,067 over the same period last year.

The diabetes pill reimbursement list has benefited 44,700 patients, an increase of 2,626 patients over the same period last year, and the reimbursement pills are worth 47.2 million tablets, an increase of 18.6 million tablets over the same period last year. / Monitoring
