The Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, on Thursday launched the Hope Dehydration Facility at Hope Estate on East Coast Demerara.

According to the Department of Public Information (DPI), the $14.3 million programme will benefit over 200 people, including farmers, agro-processors, women, youths and other stakeholders, enabling them to enhance their business development skills while earning additional income.

In delivering the keynote address, Minister Mustapha said the facility marks an important step forward in our national strategy to increase our agro-processing capabilities, which is vital to the future of Guyana’s agriculture industry.

He also said the establishment of the plant marked a further step by the government to not only process food but also empower the nation’s farmers, strengthen food security, and create a more resilient agricultural sector.

DPI said the new facility is equipped with two state-of-the-art electric dehydrators, each with 80 trays, for efficient and uniform drying of a wide range of produce, including fruits, vegetables and ground foods.
