The World Cup was originally scheduled for 2020, with Szeged as the host. However, due to the pandemic, the event was not held as planned. Now, three years later, according to the ICF, about 300 athletes from 50 countries will gather in Samarkand.

According to live reports, the Hungarian team arrived on Wednesday, with national team captain Chaba Huettner saying:

The course was quite windy with a tailwind, which made the water choppy and full of seaweed. However, the water was soft, so I thought it would be a quick course. The facilities are good, the teams are housed in spacious hangars, and the whole complex is very cultural. Despite the hot weather, the players were in high spirits and prepared for the competition. As the Hungarian Championship is already a week away, we are still trying to find the best changes for the mixed units, but overall everyone is preparing calmly and the chemistry between the coaches is good.

Interestingly, most countries, including the Hungarians, do not bring their own boats to Uzbekistan. Participants start with sports equipment rented on site.

The boats are roughly the right size according to the requirements submitted in advance, but they are completely different types. Most countries have similar problems, so we exchange boats between them. At the moment everyone is struggling to get a boat, and we are making up the necessary weight with bags of sand.

Csaba Hüttner said.

Four canoeists who competed in the Paris Olympics – Takács Jinksó, Adolf Balázs, Daniel Fayés and Jonathan Hajdu – will also set off in Samarkand. In addition, the Hungarian team has new faces such as Janka Rugonfalvi-Kiss, Laura Ujfalvi, Réka Kiskó, Angelina Szegedi and István Juhász, who will introduce themselves as new world champions.

The international field also includes notable athletes such as Czech Olympic champions Martin Fuksa and Josef Dostal, Portuguese Fernando Pimenta, as well as Ukrainian women’s canoeist Ludlima Luzan, Chilean Maria José Melillade and Cuban Yarisladis Cirillo Dubois.

The time difference is three hours, so the women’s K-1 1000m preliminaries start at 6 a.m. Hungarian time. The finals on Saturday and Sunday will be broadcast live by M4 Sport.
