Territory holiday prices fall slightly

The organization that monitors food prices (Basic Food Index-BFI) has found that food prices in Hong Kong have fallen slightly for three consecutive months.

Products that saw price drops included sugar, turkey, spareribs, canned goods, taro, bananas, beef, chicken legs, noodles (ramen) and ice cream.

Beef shanks fell $2.01 a pound and pork ribs dropped $1.88 a pound. Beef dropped to $5.50 and 10-pound chicken legs were $18.15.

Many food prices have risen in the past few months, including eggs, sausages, rice, butter, canned tuna, bread and mayonnaise.

Egg prices fell last month but have now rebounded to $2.93.

Food prices remained unchanged, including drinking water and milk.

But the facts show that food prices will continue to fall this year.
