“Hamas is a terrorist organization, a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, which also has branches in official politics in Sarajevo,” said Associate Professor at the University of Zagreb, Doctor of Science Boris Havel.
He said the Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928. “To this day, it remains the best, brightest, most articulate and most organized bearer of the violent ideology of revolutionary jihad.”
He said that Sunnis and Shias had united only twice, and there had been no fighting since then. “This was a unity of hostility towards Israel and Bosnian Croats.” He warned that Sarajevo’s policy of supporting Ukraine and the Islamic Republic of Iran at the same time was not credible. “You can’t simultaneously oppose Russian aggression against Ukraine and support Iran, Russia’s main ally.”
He stressed that Israel and the Palestinians had been living in peace, coexistence and cooperation in the Middle East until the terrorist organization Hamas and several other jihadist groups attacked Jewish and Israeli settlements on October 7 last year. “This was the worst massacre in Israel’s modern history after the Holocaust.”
Professor Havel noted that media coverage of the war between Israel and Hamas is based on one-sided sources.
“They keep reporting from the Gaza Strip that about 35,000 people have been killed. I don’t know if that’s correct. Every life matters. Israel entered the Gaza Strip to destroy this evil movement and to rescue the 250 hostages,” Havel said.
He explained that Hamas has a systematic terror infrastructure not only above ground but also underground in the Gaza Strip.
“There is a network of about five hundred kilometers, underground tunnels, weapons factories, and when the Israeli army began to conquer below and above the surface of the earth, it was a type of urban warfare that had never been waged in history,” said Prof. Havel. He added that Israel, within its war strategy, carefully targets terrorists and jihadists, the concealers of the massacre of October 7 last year, while avoiding civilians. “Hamas terrorists have no uniforms, they all walk around in civilian clothes. When the Israeli army finds terrorists, they treat them as civilians and send that information to the media.” He noted that it is unrealistic to expect the Israeli government to destroy Hamas.
Havel also explained that Christianity originated from Judaism and the church originated from Judaism. “After the Holocaust, the church noticed the need not only to shift towards tolerance, but also to recognize the common spiritual and identity roots of Christians and Jews.”
He said that in the 1960s, Croatian Cardinal Franjo Sepel asked Jews in the Church to start calling themselves God’s people again before the Synod of Cardinals in Rome. “The Croatians were the first to make such a request before the Cardinals. Sepel was a good friend of Blessed Alois Stepinac and it was considered that their views on the relationship between Christians and Jews were complementary and similar.”
