ManteIENE CUBA successfully implements free cochlear implant program for disabled children
Granma newspaper confirmed today that for 15 years Cuba has had a free national cochlear implant programme, through which some 270,000 children have been treated, especially those with multiple disabilities and deaf-blindness. In Cuba, according to a study conducted between 2001 and 2003, the national prevalence of hearing impairment was 2.1 per 1,000 inhabitants.
Cuba is not a source, transit or destination for human trafficking
In October, the country submitted its report on laws and crimes against human trafficking and other forms of sexual abuse for 2012.
India’s Vice President speaks very positively of his visit to Cuba
Vice President Hamid Ansari today stressed the great importance that India and Cuba attach to bilateral relations and their shared desire to strengthen them as the most relevant outcome of his recently concluded visit to the island. On the flight to the UK, Ansari told accompanying journalists that his interviews with Cuban First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel and President Raúl Castro were conducted in a highly engaging atmosphere.

LILA DOWNS TO BRING HER SHOW TO CUBA IN NOVEMBER
After winning the Best Alternative Act award at the Luna del Auditorio in her home country, the Mexican singer-songwriter Lila Downs tells Notimex that she will bring this proposal to Cuba for the first time in November. The translator of “Mezcalito” assures about her presentation on the island: “There have been many wishes over the years… We will sing some of the latest songs and I am also curious to establish links with the existing hip-hop community in Cuba, because that movement is very interesting,” he admits.
