Alexander Sørloth scored his first La Liga goal for Atletico Madrid in the first half on Monday.

Soros had his chance from the start in the league opener against his former club Villarreal.

Before the half-time break, Soros headed in a cross from teammate Pablo Barrios to make the score 2-2.

Earlier this month, Trendel was brought to Atletico for around NOK 350 million. In the 2023/24 season, he had a great season with Villarreal and won the title of La Liga top scorer with 23 goals.

Atletico also strengthened their attack this summer with Argentine star Julian Alvarez, who was not ready for the starting XI after a long season and an intense summer Copa America campaign.

On the bench

Alvarez was relegated to the bench in Monday’s game. Sorlos and French star Antoine Griezmann formed a forward partnership. Another new signing, Robin Le Normand, started at center back.

Atletico finished fourth in the league last season and will be hoping to create a tighter battle for the league title with Real Madrid and Barcelona this season.

Soros’ new team will also participate in the Champions League and cup competitions.

The Norwegian international striker is about to start his fourth consecutive season in Spanish football after spending two years on loan at Real Sociedad from RB Leipzig before being bought by Villarreal last summer.
