Los Angeles, August 3: Harrison Ford will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the much-anticipated film Captain America: Brave New World, which is set to be released next year.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Ford, 82, spoke about his journey into the Marvel Universe as the former U.S. President transformed into the Red Hulk. Discussing the challenges of motion capture technology, which was essential to portraying the Hulk’s cinematic transformation, Ford candidly shared his thoughts on the role.

“It takes not giving a shit,” Ford told Variety. “It takes being a fool for money, and I’ve done that before.” He clarified that his comments were not meant to criticize the film, and he stressed that he enjoyed the experience despite the unique demands of the role. “I’m just saying, you have to do things that normally your mom doesn’t want you to do — or your acting coach, if you have one,” Ford added.

Ford expressed delight at the positive response to the film’s trailer, which premiered at the convention. He takes over the role of Ross from the late William Hurt, who played Ross in five Marvel films between 2008 and 2021. Ford was cast in the role after Hurt died of prostate cancer in 2022 at the age of 71.

Anthony Mackie, Ford’s partner Captain America 4praised the veteran actor in a June 2023 interview with Inverse. Mackie praised Ford’s presence, noting that “he’s Harrison Ford,” and emphasized Ford’s down-to-earth nature and charm. “He takes away that [aura] Because he’s a really cool dude,” McGee added.

In a conversation with ScreenRant at Comic-Con, Ford compared his role in the MCU to his iconic performances in the Indiana Jones and Star Wars franchises. He appreciated the creative freedom the MCU offers, saying, “It’s a completely different style, isn’t it? Getting rid of some of the normal restrictions on your imagination. It’s been a joy to deal with, and it’s been a lot of fun.”

Ford also praised the film’s co-star and director, Julius Ona. “The people I worked with were great,” Ford said, praising Ona’s direction and Mackie’s collaboration. “We had a lot of fun. I enjoyed it.”
