Kamala Harris welcomed Donald Trump’s decision to debate her in September, which the former president announced during a packed press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday.

“I heard Donald Trump has finally committed to a debate with me on September 10th,” the vice president wrote on the social media platform X. “I’m looking forward to it.”

Before Trump confirmed his participation in the ABC debate, he had repeatedly said he would not face a new Democratic opponent in the presidential election.

The Republican spent about an hour answering questions and delivering a frenetic campaign speech punctuated by attacks on his Democratic opponent (and past opponents) and revisiting a favorite grievance of his — reported crowd sizes.

Beyond that, he said he has agreed to participate in three presidential debates — on Fox News on Sept. 4, on ABC News on Sept. 10 and on NBC News on Sept. 25. The Harris campaign has only agreed to participate in the ABC News debate, and has turned down the Fox debate date.
