Harris gives first interview since Biden’s withdrawal
Donald Trump has for weeks mocked his opponent, Kamala Harris, for not giving an interview since her nomination. On Thursday, the Democrat will do the same with Tim Waltz.

On Thursday, Tim Waltz and Kamala Harris will give their first interviews since being nominated as candidates for the U.S. presidency.

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris will be interviewed this week for the first time since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race. The show is scheduled to air on CNN News on Thursday evening. Along with Harris, her running mate Tim Waltz will also be interviewed by journalist Dana Bash.
Harris has been criticized for not holding press conferences or agreeing to interviews since Biden dropped out of the presidential race on July 21. Republican Donald Trump’s campaign has publicly documented Harris’ days as a candidate without granting interviews. Trump’s campaign responded to the news that she would appear on CNN with Waltz by declaring “she is not competent enough to do it on her own.”
Planned TV Duel – No Notes or Cheat Sheets
After President Joe Biden withdrew from the re-election race in July due to pressure from within the party, Harris quickly became the new leading lady of the Democratic campaign, with Waltz at her side. In recent weeks, she has actually only appeared in the protected space of carefully designed and staged campaign events. The highlight was the Democratic convention in Chicago last week, where the two put on a big show.
In the coming weeks, Harris will have to prove herself in situations over which the campaign cannot fully control. That includes interviews but also a televised showdown with Trump planned for the night of September 11 in Germany. Trump wrote on the platform he co-founded, Truth Society, that he and Harris’ team had agreed on the rules for the televised debates. Among other things, that includes not allowing them to bring notes or cheat sheets.
