Robotics competition: Haitian team Edu Robo will represent the country at the first global challenge in 2024 in Greece.
EduCáre Ayiti, an organization dedicated to promoting education and innovation among young people in Haiti, has just reached a new milestone by qualifying for the first Global Challenge in 2024. This international robotics event will be held in Athens, Greece, from September 26 to 29. The participation of the Haitian team Edu Robo will mark a historic milestone for the country.
In a recent interview with Juno7, Daphney Herold, Public Relations Manager of EduCáre Ayiti, shared details of this great adventure. Founded in 2010, the organization’s mission is to provide educational and personal development opportunities to young people in Haiti, especially through innovative programs such as Edu Robo, which teaches young people STEM (science, technology, engineering) skills and mathematics through educational robotics.
Daphney Herold expressed her great joy and pride in her team’s second consecutive selection for the inaugural Global Challenge, following the inaugural Global Challenge in Singapore in 2023. This international competition highlights the ingenuity and teamwork of young contestants through technical challenges that focus on global issues. This year’s theme is food security, with the slogan “Feeding the Future”.
The Edu Robo team consists of nine talented members, each with a vital role to play. Captain Marly is surrounded by young experts in programming, mechanical design and marketing, with support from dedicated mentors. Together they will work to deliver a robot designed to meet the challenges of the annual challenge, specifically using Leaf protein concentrate (LPC), an innovative technology to combat food insecurity.
Edu Robo’s goals for this competition are ambitious: to represent Haiti with pride, to connect with other international teams, and most importantly, to win. Her participation is also intended to inspire other Haitian youth, especially young girls, to pursue STEM careers and promote technological innovation in the country.
Daphney Herold would like to thank everyone who supported the team, and especially Wyclef Jean for his unwavering support. She also encouraged young Haitians to believe in their potential and to persevere despite challenges.
