This is the case of the Protestant Organization, which, by decree of May 27, 2024, is one of the entities invited to choose a representative for its sector.
There is a disagreement between the Conference of Haitian Pastors (Copah) and the Federation of Haitian Protestants (Fph) over the procedure for selecting representatives of the Protestant sector.
“The late arrival of the invitation and the arrogant attitude of the Federation of Haitian Protestants, which behaves like the ‘Pope’ of the field, do not inspire confidence and indicate questionable actions,” Copa wrote in an open letter dated July 13, 2024.
COPAH believes that “it is necessary to establish a committee composed of representatives of the relevant organizations. This committee will establish the selection criteria, study the candidate files and unanimously appoint an uncontroversial representative of the Protestant community to the new Provisional Electoral Council.

“Each department must submit its representatives to the Presidential Transition Council within no more than eight (8) days of receipt of this letter to face the legal consequences,” according to the letter sent to various organizations by Cpt last week.
Media reports say that the Fph has begun soliciting applications from those who wish to represent the Reformed Church in the CEP. July 15 is considered the deadline for submitting applications.
Copah advocates for a consensus choice and warns against “attempting to appoint a representative in the CEP without the agreement of all the organizations involved in the process.”

In order to “leave the CEP free from any suspicion, the personalities that make up the committee must be selected in a transparent and fair manner,” said Cpt.
According to the Cpt’s terms of reference, “integrity, independence, academic and professional competence” are among the criteria that must be met to become an election consultant.
The person must not be subject to international sanctions or ongoing legal proceedings.
Furthermore, she must demonstrate experience and knowledge of the context, as well as a commitment to democracy and the rule of law in recent years in promoting and respecting Haitian democratic and rule of law values.
